Ryder Cup Captains Paul McGinley and Ian Woosnam will tee it up at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at Formby Golf Club, England, from July 29-August 1.

The duo, who are both Legends Tour Ambassadors and each led Team Europe to memorable victories in the biennial contest, will take part in the Legends Tour’s flagship event when it takes place on the stunning links of Formby Golf Club.

Woosnam capped off a stunning Ryder Cup career, which included eight appearances and four victories as a player, by captaining Team Europe to a dominant 18.5 – 9.5 triumph at the K Club in 2006.

The 1991 Masters Champion, who has 52 professional wins to his name in a glittering 45-year career to date, will join a strong field at Formby Golf Club in July.

“This tournament is always one of the highlights of the year and I am really looking forward to playing in the Tour’s flagship event once again,” he said.

“I have never played at Formby but it is in a part of the world which is famous for links golf, so I am sure it will provide a real test for all of us. Hopefully we are treated to some good weather and the spectators can come out and enjoy an exciting week of golf.”

Irishman McGinley, who played under Woosnam in 2006, has a 100 percent record in the Ryder Cup with three wins as a player before leading Team Europe to victory at Gleneagles in 2014 where they defeated Team USA 16.5 – 11.5.

The four-time European Tour winner finished in a tie for ninth place in the last edition of the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in 2019 and he is looking forward to playing in front of spectators on Merseyside.

“I’m really excited to play in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship again, it’s always such an enjoyable week,” McGinley said.

“It’s the flagship event on the Legends Tour and I know Ryan and his team put so much effort into making it a success, so I’m thrilled to be going up to Formby.

“To be able to play in front of fans again is brilliant. They’re so passionate about their golf in that part of the country and I just know the atmosphere will be electric all week, which really does make a difference to us players.”

Formby Golf Club is one of the world’s great links courses and will play host to the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship for the first time in 2021. Running through mature sand dunes and pinewoods, the combination of well protected greens, undulating fairways and challenging tee shots signifies a course of magnificent contrasts.

Tickets are on sale now for the 2021 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship and will begin at £10 for the first event of the innovative Celebrity Series Pro-Am on Wednesday July 28, increasing to £15 for adults and £10 for concessions (over 50s) for each day of the tournament, which runs from Thursday July 29 – Sunday August 1. Under 16s will be admitted free of charge and car parking is priced at £5 per car. Spectators who are intending to use the Park and Ride service must purchase a parking pass.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting https://staysurepgaseniors2021.eventbrite.co.uk. Please note, tickets are limited and are available in advance only. Tickets will not be sold on the day.

The only official sales channel to purchase tickets for the 2021 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is via the ticketing platform Eventbrite. The resale of tickets on unofficial platforms contravenes the European Tour’s ticket terms and conditions and such sales render the ticket void.
